FARM MARKETS IN INDIANA
Farm markets are permanent markets, stands or stores located near the growing sites of some of the fresh food items offered during seasonal hours to the public. These sites may include orchards, farms and nurseries. They offer fresh produce, meats and products and are owned and operated by local farm families.

The Apple Dumpling lunch room and gift shop is part of McClure's Orchard, across from the big Apple Barn, and features homemade apple products and baked goods on the menu as well as an excellent chicken salad, soups, sandwiches and of course, apple dumplings. Visit the Apple Barn, surrounded by the orchards, for some chunky applesauce, cider or a basket of crisp apples to prolong the country experience. This quaint market, built in 1925, offers personal service and knowledgeable advise from the third generation on the farm. Close to 465 and US 31, Adrian Orchard features peaches, apples, pears, sweet corn, unpasteurized cider, melons, peppers, tomatoes, honey, jams and jellies. Fall favorites include unpasteurized cider, pumpkins and caramel apples, especially at the Harvest Fest on the first weekend in October. Open July through January, Mon.-Sat. 10 am - 6 pm, Sun. Beasley's Orchard

This market and bakery are housed in a Civil War-era barn built with post-beam construction. In addition to produce, jellies, preserves, sauces and kitchen gadgets fill the barn. Cider, caramel apples and apple dumplings are seasonal specialties.

Tuttle Orchards

Tuttle's is a 4th generation family farm with its own patented apple variety: Stark Supreme Stayman Winesap.  It is a favorite destination for apples, pumpkins, flowers, and local food. The orchard offers 22 varieties of apples, 15 varieties of vegetables, strawberries, sweet corn and a large selection of annuals, perennials and poinsettias. Signature foods include apple butter, caramel apples, cider slushies and fresh cider.  
Saturdays from Sept. 5 through Oct. 24th are fall festival days, with brats, roasted corn and other fall favorites available when you work up an appetite from pumpkin and apple picking, hayrides, corn mazes and cider sampling. During the holidays persimmon pulp,

The apple orchard at Whiteland was planted in 1933, and apples and fresh apple cider have been specialties ever since. Apple of His Eye Orchard

Just around the corner from Hoosier Park, you are out in the countryside, where Jude and Richard Sochackie grow more than 16 varieties of apples in their orchard. Stop by the little donut hut for some of Jude's apple butter donuts, made from a family recipe, and for freshly picked apples throughout the season. The Sochackis offer apple butter, applesauce, pie filling and cider for sale as well as locally grown produce, honey and cold Ale 8 ginger ale. The orchard is an offshoot of Richard's ministry, and literature, student tours and small group Bible studies are available as well.

Sechler Pickles

You can't dine here but you can sample some very good pickles, and take a tour of
of Sechler's Fine Pickles factory in Hoosier farmland near St. Joe. You will experience the same fine art of pickle processing that began in 1921 when Ralph Sechler founded his pickle company in the homestead that still stands next to the factory and cypress pickling tanks that make Sechler's pickles the pride of Indiana.
Over 40 varieties of pickles are featured in the rustic retail store and samples of most varieties are available. Tours are available April through October. Call for retail hours.

The Apple Works

Twenty minutes from Nashville, you can spend the better part of a day at the Apple Works. Besides 7500 apple trees, local produce, a bakery, fudgery and ice cream parlor,

Karen and Brad Black built this airy log Apple Lodge commanding a 360-degree view from the porch in 1999 to market the fruit and produce from Joe Black's hilltop orchard. Watch cider-making and fruit sorting while partaking of a cider slushy or just-out-of-the -oven donut, bread or pastry from the open kitchen. Shannon and Kevin Vinson's Switzerland County farm is a great place to take the kids to experience a petting zoo, pumpkin slingshot and mini-train ride. Shannon presides over the Country Café, serving buffalo burgers, chicken and dumplings and homemade desserts to visiting farm hands. Just outside of town in the rolling farmland of Southern Indiana sits a modern gray building that houses Dillman Farms, the home of our state's all-natural fruit butters, jellies and preserves. Dillman's uses select whole fruits and pure cane sugar with no preservatives and no corn syrup in their products for an old-fashioned quality. The retail shop at the front of the super-clean production kitchen sells the full line of Dillman fruit products plus barbeque sauces, honey, salsas and the fudge they make on the premises with their own butter and cream. The brick federal style homestead on the highest hill in Decatur County is a breathtaking backdrop for the blooming acres of fruit trees where that surround Karen and Randy Cyman's farm market and lunch room.  Fresh baked goods include pies, breads, cupcakes and cookies; donuts are made each morning, and chicken salad, sandwiches, colorful salads with edible blossoms and soups are served for lunch. There are lots of local specialty foods and garden gifts to buy in the shop, along with extra baked goods to take home, and flowering hanging baskets as well. Cider and the many varieties of apples and Asian pears from Highpoint's orchard are available in season, culminating in an annual Apple Fest the second weekend in October. WEST INDIANA

Fair Oaks Farms takes visitors through the dairy process "from grass to glass"
and beyond to cheese and ice cream.  The farm is the collaboration of nine dairy farmers whose 3,000 cows form the center of an educational agri-tourism experience which includes an Adventure Center, the interactive exhibits and a Cow Palace theater, a 45 minute bus tour and the Milking Parlor. The final stop is the Fair Oaks Café, where you can order a grilled cheese sandwich made from your choice of 3 varieties of the farm's own cheese for $4.95. Soups, sandwiches, salads and burritos are also served, along with Starbucks coffee. Freshly made ice creams, milkshakes and sundaes are served in the ice cream parlor. The adjacent store sells pints of the ice cream and the fine array of Fair Oaks cheeses.  Randy Krahenbuhl, a certified Master Cheese maker, oversees the production of 22 cheese varieties, including havarti, sweet Swiss, Muenster and international award-winning Gouda and Emmenthaler.
